大家好！我叫黄昱陞，是一名马来西亚华人。我本科就读于马来西亚伯乐学院（KDU）的酒店管理专业。毕业后，我前往瑞士的国际酒店管理大学（IMI）继续深造。

2016年2月，我以收益实习生的身份加入了位于阿联酋的希尔顿哈伊马角度假酒店集群，并在实习结束后获得了留用机会，成为了一名收益分析员。这也是我在希尔顿的职业生涯的起点。之后我一直管理着这间拥有475间房的希尔顿“旗舰店”，直到 2018年8月通过内部转岗的方式来到了RMCC。
作为一名区域收益经理，目前我负责澳新区的三家酒店的收益管理，它们分别是珀斯帕米利希尔顿酒店，最近新开业的珀斯北桥希尔顿逸林酒店以及莫尔斯比港希尔顿酒店。
为什么选择加入RMCC？你觉得在酒店工作和在RMCC工作有哪些区别？
从中东回到亚太区的一个主要原因是，我希望能在一个离家乡和所爱的人们更近的地方工作。鉴于希尔顿整个亚太区收益管理的精英们都汇集在这个办公室里（RMCC），对当时的我而言，这里是不二之选。
回想起来，我发现在RMCC做区域收益经理的这一年期间，我的人际交往能力和专业技能得到了提升，因为这个环境能够让我把更多的时间投入到收益分析的相关任务中去，而且我身边总是有很多收益管理的“大神”同事们。
同时，我也对办公室灵活自主的文化感到非常惊喜。公司鼓励大家利用自己认为的最高效的时间、空间和方法工作——这意味着，你可以在家，咖啡馆，火车上，甚至可以短期地回到自己的家乡工作！这是很多其它收益管理的职位所无法提供的。

此外，我们顶尖的收益分析员们所提供的商务智能和报告支持确保了工作时间没有被浪费在日常和冗余的活动中。一旦我们有需要，报告几乎马上就能准备好，并且其格式使我们能够从海量原始数据中提取出我们最需要的内容。
为什么选择收益管理作为你的职业发展道路呢？
我首次接触到“收益管理“这个术语是通过一个学校的作业，而且是一门财务课的作业！我们的小组作业是写一份关于收益管理的报告，并将其且应用到一个五星级酒店中。对我来说，这个作业打开了”新世界“的大门，就在那一刻我立刻意识到，这就是我想要追求的职业方向。
对我而言，收益管理是一份动态的，复杂的，并且具有挑战性的工作。当我所作出的战略决策让酒店取得了可量化的业绩上的成功时，我总是能获得满足感。我也发现从大量数据中识别商业模式和趋势，去解释一个看起来随机的浮动变化，是非常有收获的一件事情。
我相信练习和努力工作对于任何一个在这个方面有兴趣的人来说都是至关重要的。我的意思是，你需要阅读，学习和理解收益管理的基本概念，建立对理论和最新趋势的认知。然而，知识只有在生活和具体的行业经验的基础上才会变得实用。所以我强烈建议目前在读的酒店管理学生，如果觉得有兴趣的话，去做一份收益管理的实习。即使你最后没有在这个领域工作，你也会从中获益良多。
你觉得在中国工作怎么样？有没有什么有趣的故事（例如文化冲击等等）可以与我们分享的？
我来自一个典型的马来西亚华人家庭，上海的食物和习俗并没有给我带来什么文化冲击，因为这里的一切一定程度上和我家乡很相近。所以我能融入到这个城市的生活中，因为我没有什么语言和文化障碍。在中国生活最棒的一点就是便利，只要有个智能手机，几乎什么事情都能做。除此之外，生活在上海也成了许多朋友来找我玩的一个非常好的理由！

你在工作之余有什么爱好吗？
当我不工作或者不用与Excel表格打交道时，我喜欢和我女朋友去旅行，充分利用我的希尔顿员工价和希尔顿荣誉客会金会籍的福利。我也喜欢研究摄影技巧，以及学习更快速的魔方解法（目前最快记录：34秒！）。

法国是我最爱的旅行目的地之一。我第一次体验这个国度是通过搭便车的方式——10天，从瑞士蒙特勒出发，途径里昂，第戎，特鲁瓦，兰斯和里尔，一直到法国北海岸的加来。之后我登上去英国多佛的渡轮，接着转乘火车到伦敦。这是我去过的风景最优美的路线之一，我一定要跟大家安利这条线路！

Please give us a brief introduction of yourself.
Hi everyone! My name is YuSheng Ng. I was born and raised in Malaysia, where I first started studying hospitality at KDU University College and subsequently continued my studies at IMI University Centre Luzern in Switzerland.
My journey with Hilton started since February 2016 when I joined the Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Cluster in the UAE as a Revenue Intern and was offered to stay on in a permanent role as a Revenue Analyst upon completion of the internship program. I was managing the 475-key Hilton flagship resort in RAK before I made the decision to apply for an internal transfer to RMCC Asia Pacific in August 2018. As a Cluster Revenue Manager, currently I am managing 3 hotels in the Australasia region, namely Hilton Parmelia Perth and the recently opened DoubleTree by Hilton Perth Northbridge & Hilton Port Moresby.

Why chose to join RMCC? What’s the differences between working in a hotel and working in RMCC?
One of the primary reasons that I have chosen to return to Asia Pacific from the Middle East is to be nearer to home and my loved ones. While given that all the Revenue Management elites in this region gather in this office, it was an obvious choice for me at that point in time. In retrospective, I realized that working in RMCC as a CRM actually enhanced my personal & professional growth and development as this environment allows me to invest more time into RM related tasks and I am always surrounded by Revenue Experts.
I am also amazed by the culture of flexibility & empowerment practiced in our office. We are always encouraged to work in the time, space and method where we feel most productive, be it at home, at a café, on the train or even temporarily back from my home country! This flexibility is not available in many other revenue management positions.
Moreover, the Business Intelligent & Reporting support given by our top-in-class Revenue Analyst also ensured that time is never wasted on routine & redundant activities. Reports are (almost) immediately available when we need them, and in a format which allows the most relevant insights to be extracted from the vast pool of raw data available to us.

Why did you choose revenue management as your career path?
My first encounter with the term Revenue (Yield) Management was actually through a school assignment, and it was actually given in our Finance Class! Our group was assigned to write a literary review on RM and its application in a 5-star hotel and it introduced me to the world of RM and I knew immediately that this is what I want to pursue in my career.
Personally, I find Revenue Management to be sufficiently dynamic, complex and challenging that I always get a sense of fulfillment whenever I see the impact of a strategic decision makes to the hotel’s commercial success, which is very measurable. I also find it rewarding to be able to score through a pool of data and identify patterns and trends which could explain the reason behind a seemingly random fluctuation.
I believe that practice & hard work is of vital importance for anyone who is interested to pursue a career in this field. By this, I mean to read, learn and understand the fundamental concepts, established theories and latest trend in Revenue Management. However, knowledge can only be useful if it is backed up with real-life, concrete industry experience. Hence I strongly recommend current hospitality students to try out a Revenue Management Internship if you think that this might be a role that you are interested in. You will only benefit out of it, even if you do not end up working in this function or industry.

How do you feel working in China? Is there any interesting story (culture shock, etc.) you’d like to share with us?
As I come from a typical Malaysian-Chinese family, the food and custom in Shanghai did not really gave me any culture shock, as it is quite similar with my hometown to a certain extent. Hence, I was able to blend into the city-life and get around quite conveniently as there is no language or culture barrier for me. The convenience of being able to do basically everything via your mobile phone is certainly one of the best aspects of living in China. Also, living in Shanghai is also a good reason for many of my friend to pay me a visit!

Any hobby apart from work?
When I am not at work or playing around with Excel, I enjoy going on vacation with my girlfriend and fully utilize my Go Hilton & Hilton Honors Gold Member benefits.

Sometimes, I also love to explore new photography techniques with my camera or trying to learn new algorithms to solve Rubik’s Cube as fast as I can (current record: 34 secs).
One of my favorite travel destination is France. I first explored this country in a 10-days hitchhiking journey from Montreux, Switzerland all the way to Calais (via Lyon, Dijon, Troyes, Reims & Lille) at the north coast of France, where I boarded on a ferry to Dover, UK and subsequently a train to London. It is one of the most scenic route I’ve been to and I would recommend everyone to visit as well.
