Southeast Asia is the new hotbed for e-commerce in Asia Pacific. Chinese tech giants, Alibaba, Tencent and JD.com have all made their debuts to gain first-mover advantage in this diverse and high-growth market. In 2017, gross merchandise value of first-hand goods surpassed US$10B (doubling since 2015), with a stunning compound annual growth rate of 41%.

In its bid to capture the market, Alibaba has invested over US$3bn in Lazada and Tokopedia, Singapore and Indonesia’s largest e-commerce platforms. As majority shareholder of Sea Group, Tencent takes on the challenge with Shopee. While JD.com has launched JD.ID and invested in Tiki.vn earlier this year. With more than 330 million internet users in SEA, the market is ripe and expected to boom through to 2025. On this teleconference, GLG is pleased to host Mr. Rene Janssen, former Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Lazada, who will share his insights on:

Biography

Mr. Rene Janssen, based in Netherlands, is a C-Level professional and experienced management consultant. He is currently the Founder and Managing Director of Lepaya since 2017. Lepaya is an on-demand learning platform for corporations and individuals. Prior to this, he was a senior executive at Lazada's Southeast Asian operations. His first role with Lazada Southeast Asia was Managing Director Marketplace. He designed and led third party e-commerce Marketplace platform across Lazada Group, with focus on building and leading the Seller Acquisition and onboarding processes across the region. In 2014, he additional held full profit and loss responsibility as the Chief Commercial Officer at Lazada Vietnam, before moving in 2015 to Jakarta to take on the role of Chief Commercial Officer for Lazada Indonesia. He was responsibility for category management, procurement, pricing, channels strategy and merchandising for both the retail and marketplace arm of Lazada Indonesia. In Mr. Janssen's last role in the company he was responsible for grouwpide HR as the Executive Vice President and Deputy Chief People Officer for the Southeast Asia. In this role, he shifted his commercial responsibilities to people processes for the Group's 5,000+ employees. He rebuild HR processes& tools from scratch, squarely aimed at the every-changing demands of a rapidly growing millennial workforce. Prior to Lazada, he was a project leader for Boston Consulting Group from 2009 to 2014. His expertise was go-to market strategy in Europe as well as emerging countries in Africa, Middle East and Asia.
