阿美北京研发中心可持续发展研发竞赛：关注可持续技术，助力减少碳足迹

近日，经过数月的筹备以及对研究人员创新提案的深入评估，入围的研究人员们齐聚阿美北京研发中心，参加“2023年可持续发展研发竞赛”的总决赛和闭幕式。
“可持续发展研发竞赛”由阿美北京研发中心上游可持续技术团队于2023年9月发起，重点关注可持续，特别是替代封存的概念。

参赛者们受邀前往阿美北京研发中心参观，并听取了中心研发人员关于最新研究项目的介绍。
此次研发竞赛旨在吸引当地研究人员提出相关研发项目，以获得潜在的合作及资助的特定战略机会。竞赛主要征集关于CO2固化和CO2转化为油田化学品这两个领域的潜在研发项目和技术解决方案。
阿美北京研发中心主任阿卜杜卡里姆·索菲表示：
沙特阿拉伯和中国都宣布了到2060年实现净零排放的目标。与此同时，两国的国家石油公司（沙特阿美和中石油）也宣布了到2050年实现净零排放的目标。为了支持这一目标，阿美北京研发中心成立了上游可持续技术团队，北京研发中心这一新研究方向的建立源于我们高度契合的目标。为了助力目标的实现，我们于2023年9月发起了可持续发展研发竞赛。
阿美北京研发中心共收到来自学术界、研究机构和企业的研究人员和研究小组的提案29份。经过竞赛委员会的认真审核和评估，5个提案最终入围，并受邀参加决赛。入围的提案分别来自香港理工大学、北京理工大学、苏州大学、清华大学和北京大学。

阿美亚洲中国区总裁纳迪尔·阿拉法杰对所有参赛者的积极参与表示感谢，并向决赛入围团队和获奖团队表示热烈的祝贺，他说道：
此次竞赛的主题与中沙两国实现净零排放的目标高度契合，这次竞赛标志着研发合作的开始，未来我们将会在可持续发展和减少碳排放等领域展开更广泛的合作。
获奖提案将获得最高150万元人民币的研究基金，通过设立合作研究项目，研究基金将为整个提案或项目的初始阶段提供资助，项目合作将于2024年一季度开始执行。
2024年8月14日，我们非常高兴地宣布，阿美北京研发中心和香港理工大学已就合同条款达成最终协议，根据合同，该奖项将资助二氧化碳替代封存这一获奖提案的研究。

BRC Techno-Quest highlights commitment to sustainability and carbon footprint reduction

Finalists of 2023 Sustainability Techno-Quest recently gathered at Aramco Beijing Research Center (BRC) for the final contest and closing ceremony after months of preparation, evaluation, and shortlisting of the researchers’ R&D proposals.
The techno-quest was launched by BRC’s Upstream Sustainability Team in September 2023, with focus on sustainability and specifically the concept of carbon footprint reduction through alternate sequestration.

Participants were invited for a tour of Aramco Beijing Research Center facilities, where they were briefed by researchers on the latest research projects carried out at the center.
The competition attempts to engage local researchers in proposing relevant R&D projects toward a specific opportunity for possible collaboration and funding. Proposals are solicited for potential R&D projects and technological solutions across two domains: CO2 solidification, and CO2 to oilfield chemicals.
Dr. Abdulkareem M. AlSofi, Director of Aramco Beijing Research Center, said:
Saudi Arabia and China have both announced their intent to achieve net-zero by 2060. Similarly, both national oil producers (Saudi Aramco and CNPC) announced their intent to achieve Net-Zero by 2050. In support, Aramco Beijing Research Center has established its Upstream Sustainability Team in 2022. The establishment of this new research thrust at Beijing Research Center stems from our harmonious plans. And part of these efforts, in September 2023 we announced the Sustainability Techno-Quest.
In total, 29 proposals from researchers and research groups of leading academia, research institutes and companies were received. After Techno-Quest Committee’s careful review and evaluation, 5 proposals were shortlisted and the finalists were invited for the final contest. The 5 finalists are affiliated with Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Soochow University, Tsinghua University, and Peking University.
The proposal from the team led by Prof. Chi Sun Poon, Head of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Director of Research Center for Resources Engineering towards Carbon Neutrality at Hong Kong Polytechnic University was announced as the winner.
Aramco China Managing Director Nader A. Arfaj expressed appreciation for all submitters’ active participation, and extended warm congratulations to the finalists and the winners:
Techno-Quest adopts a theme that is very critical to the mutual intent and roadmap for both China and Saudi Arabia. This event will only mark the beginning for wider and better engagement and collaboration with you and China’s great R&D ecosystem.
The winning proposal will be awarded a research fund up to 1.5 million RMB to cover the whole proposal or initial phase(s) through establishing a collaborative research project, and the collaboration with the champion team will be executed in Q1 2024.
On August 14, 2024, we are extremely delighted to announce that both parties (Aramco Beijing Research Center and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University) have reached final agreement on the contractual terms and the contract under which the award will fund the proposed research on CO2 Alternate Sequestration.
