A general cargo ship MV Keneukai sank on December 8 while loading cargo at the Port of Trisakti, Banjarmasin, Indonesia.
Based on the initial reports, the ship dragged anchor, but before the crew could start the ship’s engine, it hit a submerged wreck. The ship’s hull was punctured by the blow and started to take in water.
The ship’s 14 crew members were evacuated from the ship and are reported to be safe, according to local media.
The Indonesian-flagged vessel was loaded with approximately 2,500 tons of cement when it went down.
The 2,900 dwt vessel was built in 1984.
Investigation into the incident is underway.
