4th Shaanxi-Beijing Gas Pipeline Main-structure Delivered

On October 29, 2017, the 4th Shaanxi-Beijing Gas Pipeline Beijing Section was successfully constructed and sent for approval. This means that the whole main-structure of 4th Shaanxi-Beijing Gas Pipeline has accomplished the construction phase and is ready for nitrogen injection and operation. The new pipeline will provide major contribution to the winter heating gas supply in Beijing.

The natural gas consumption in Beijing boosts significantly in 2017, especially with support from the environmental protection, air pollution control and the coal-to-gas reform. The natural gas proportion in energy structure of Beijing City had expanded from 14.6% to 29% from 2010 to 2015. The consumption volume continued to grow and reached 16 billion cbm in 2016 or an amazing proportion at 31.7%. However, the winter heating took up over 40% of the total natural gas consumption in Beijing, even more, over 75% of the total were consumed in the five months of the winter season in Beijing. Every November 15, Beijing entered the winter heating pattern, and the gas consumption always skyrocketed since that day, giving breathtaking pressure to the North China natural gas supply system.

It is foreseeable that with the coal-to-gas reform this year, the winter heating season will bring more demand on natural gas, and the peak season in Beijing will be hard for natural gas pipeline system. The new pipeline, 4th Shaanxi-Beijing Gas Pipeline, will certainly release some pressure and bring more reliability and flexibility to Beijing gas supply.
