Although the rainfall in South China in late-Jun and early-Jul broke the highest point in the same period in history, the high temperature in North China, Northwest China and other 31 cities also broke the highest point in the history. Heatwave drove the sales of air conditioning up. In July, most air conditioning enterprises performed well.
The overall demand for ABS was good in large downstream industries and weak in small downstream factories. The operating rates at large downstream factories were high. The operating rates at downstream small factories were restricted by the high feedstock costs and offseason of demand.
According to SCI’s statistics, the operating rates of some air conditioning producers were about 80%-90%. In South China, the operating rates of some large export-oriented small household appliances producers up 0.5% month-on-month to 85%-90%. These small household appliances include bread maker, coffee machine, toaster, etc.
In South China, the operating rates of some large modified ABS factories were 70%-75%, slipping marginally from last month. These factories normally supplied ABS as feedstock to home appliance industry, automobile industry, computer industry and some electronic products industries.
The operating rates of some export-oriented toy producers were 80%-90% in South China. That of some export-oriented lighter producers declined to below 60%. The operating rates of refrigerator and washing machine producers were 70%-80% respectively.
Although July is normally the offseason of demand. The ABS was supported by the good performance in both air conditioning industry and small household appliances industries. Only small downstream factories were in poor demand. In August, the demand from export orders should still be focused.
