ACC Strongly Opposes Any Tariffs on Chemicals & Plastics

The U.S. Trade Representative Office (USTR) held a hearing on July 24th on the 2nd round of tariffs. The 2ndround of tariffs involve 284 items of imported goods, worth 16 billion USD. Semi-conductor-related products, plastic and rubber products account for nearly 50 % of the total. Many American enterprises who set factories in China protested about tariffs.
American Chemistry Council (ACC) has warned that the U.S. chemical industry would loss thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in investment if $2.2 billion of chemicals and plastics are not eliminated from the 2ndround of tariffs list.
ACC warned that the tariffs and the resulting retaliation will weaken the competitiveness of the chemical industry and the entire United States.
On the occasion of escalating trade tensions between China and the U.S., the Chemical Industry Trade Organization of the U.S. strongly opposes any tariffs on chemicals.
