Successive Ethanol Price Hikes Occurred in East China
The cassava-based ethanol price in East China showed a strong growth momentum after Mid-Autumn holidays. The price in Shandong rose by RMB 150 to RMB 5,470/mt (tax included) till now. Thus, distilleries in northern Jiangsu tried to follow the pace of price hikes in Shandong. According to SCI, the low operating rate and stock level as well as buyers’ procurement for replenishment before Mid-Autumn holidays and National Day holidays jointly pushed up the prices.
The operating rates at China’s cassava-based ethanol distilleries always hovered around 30% due to the continual production loss, curbing the price increase in the Thailand-origin cassava slice. SCI data showed China’s cassava-based ethanol output in August only reached 120kt, causing limited consumption on cassava slice. According to statistics, China imported 3,730kt cassava slice from January to August in 2018, down 26.39% Y-O-Y.
The stocks at distilleries in East China showed a downtrend in recent two months in the wake of the procurement from downstream industries and intermediaries, lending support to the price hikes.
