10,000 Methanol-Fueled Vehicles to Appear in Guizhou Province in 2019

It is reported that Guizhou Province plans to complete the promotion of 10,000 methanol-fueled vehicles in 2019, including 7,000 in Guiyang City and 3,000 in other cities and prefectures.

Promoting the application of methanol-fueled vehicles is an important measure to accelerate the construction of ecological civilization, deepen the reform of energy supply-side structure and boost the high-quality economic development of Guizhou Province. Guiyang City has started the methanol-fueled vehicle pilot work since 2015, which is mainly applied in the taxi industry. It took nearly 3 years to fully verify the reliability, safety, environmental protection and economy of methanol-fueled vehicles and methanol fuel, and it has passed the examination and acceptance of the expert group of national ministries and commissions. 

In order to ensure the smooth promotion of methanol-fueled vehicles throughout the province, Guizhou Province encourages the taxies and driving schools to use methanol-fueled vehicles when adding or replacing vehicles by issuing car purchase subsidy policies, etc. Meanwhile, under the condition of the same quality and price, the government departments at all levels are encouraged to give priority to the procurement of new energy vehicles, including methanol-fueled vehicles, as official vehicles, work vehicles and law enforcement vehicles. In addition, methanol-fueled vehicles are managed by comparing with new energy vehicles, and the same policy is applicable to the licensing and driving restrictions of methanol-fueled vehicles.

In terms of supporting facilities construction, in accordance with the combination of new construction and reconstruction, new gas stations are encouraged to add methanol fuel filling equipment and functions, existing gas stations are encouraged to participate in methanol fuel operation, and a batch of comprehensive filling stations integrating gasoline, diesel and M100 methanol fuel are rationally planned and arranged. At the same time, the economic advantages of methanol-fueled vehicles are ensured by establishing the methanol fuel price control mechanism and stabilizing the cost of feedstock methanol.

So far, over 4,000 methanol-fueled taxies have hit the road in Guiyang City, accounting for 53% of all taxis in operation in the area. Thirteen methanol stations have started operation in Guiyang City and another 15 are being built. According to the plan of Guizhou provincial government, from 2019 to 2021, Guizhou Province will also arrange 200 million Yuan for supporting the development of the methanol-fueled vehicle industry.
