CNOOC Found Hundred BCM-Level Natural Gas Field
CNOOC announced on February 25 that the proved reserves of the Bozhong 19-6 Gas Field in the Bohai Sea exceeded 100 bcm. This was the biggest discovery in the Bohai Sea over the past fifty years and the biggest natural gas reserve in the region. As the gas field is near the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region (only 100 km), the resources from the new gas field could be sent to the market via a short distance to ensure the supply in the winter. According to CNOOC, the construction of the Bozhong 19-6 Gas Field has begun.
Due to its complex geological structure, the Bohai Sea area provided many oil fields but only a few small gas fields. No new large gas field was found here over the past fifty years. CNOOC started to search in this area carefully since the 11th Five-Year Plan. With developing a series of new technologies, CNOOC finally found the Bozhong 19-6 Gas Field in 2017. The daily output of the test well was 6.4 mn cubic feet. CNOOC’s discovery will not only provide natural gas resources to North China, but also encourage new exploitations in this area.
