Shandong Tire Industry Will See Significant Production Limitation

The relevant departments of Shandong have observed that the inland areas of the province will have large-scale moderate-to-poor pollution from February 19 to 22. So it is required that relevant city and county level departments should effectively cope with the heavy pollution weathers.

The Dongying Municipal Government requires all local air pollutant discharge industries such as rubber tire, chemical and petrochemical to implement measures in order to limit production and emissions. The goal is to reduce air pollutant emissions by about 15%.

Dongying City, where rubber tire enterprises gather, has long implemented the principle of “One Factory One Policy”. The better the environmental impact assessment is, the smaller the proportion of limited production will be. That is to say, enterprises with advanced environmental protection facilities will be less affected by the “production limitation storm”.

Tire enterprises have indicated that the government's production suspension and limitation measures may affect the normal production of these enterprises. The shortened delivery period of products will affect the completion of orders and may further affect the market prices of tires and other products.

Since the end of 2018, various cities in Shandong have issued more than 30 heavy pollution warnings. Among them, Dongying City issued the orange pollution emergency plan on November 22, which reduced air pollutant emission by 25%. Guangrao County issued orange warning emergency plan during the same period, and the emission of air pollutant decreased by more than 30%.

Qingdao's environmental protection measures are more stringent. The local government stipulates that in the yellow warning period, tire and rubber product enterprises need to stop one or more production lines or stop the production of key pollutant discharging workshops and sections. During the orange warning period, the above enterprises need to fully stop production.
