China is Leading Global Daily Paper Consumption Growth
From 2014 to 2018, the global daily paper output increased rapidly at an average rate of 2.8% per year. The total global daily paper output was 35,738kt, up 1.33% Y-O-Y. The daily paper demand is inelastic, and the development of the daily paper industry was pushed forward by economic growth, population increase and accelerating urbanization global wide.
Global pulp supply continues to increase, supporting daily paper capacity expansion.
In the past 5 years, the global wood pulp production increased continuously. In 2019, the increase in wood pulp output slowed down mainly affected by the global economic performance. But the pulp export to China from major pulp exporters has increased steadily. Wood pulp accounts for over 75% of the feedstock consumed in producing daily paper, and China’s import dependent degree for wood pulp was at 67%. Thus, the daily paper capacity expansion in China is supported by the increasing wood pulp supply.
China accounts for over 27% of the global daily paper output.
In 2018, the daily paper output of Asia and the Americas was 14,765kt and 11,542kt respectively, and these two continents each accounted for over 30% of the global daily paper production. From 2014 to 2018, the global population growth rate was at 1.13% per year in average, and the increase rate in daily paper output was even higher. The daily paper supply will continue to increase along with the growing global population.
The top 10 daily paper producers global wide in 2018 were China, the US, Japan, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, France and Canada. Therein, China was the largest daily paper producer in the world. In 2018, China’s daily paper output reached 9,491kt, which accounted for 27.55% of the global daily paper output.
China is one of the major daily paper consumers and exports of the world.
Most daily paper products were consumed in Asia and the Americas, and these two accounted for over 60% of the global daily paper consumption. Although Asia has the largest population in the world, its daily paper industry is less mature than that in the more developed countries in North America, Europe and Oceania. Thus, in most developing countries such as China, there is still room for further development of the daily paper industry.
China has become the engine for growth in the global daily paper industry. China was credited for over 27% of the global daily paper output in 2018, and its daily paper industry has been growing at a rate faster than most other countries. China is also a major daily paper exporter. Numerous Chinese daily paper producers entered the global market recent years exporting to Australia, Malaysia and the US. It is expected that the daily paper consumption will continue to grow in the future.
SCI suggests the booming daily paper industry that consumes mainly imported wood pulp will boost China’s wood pulp consumption, and China will continue to import more wood pulp feed its growing daily paper industry.
