Shandong Binhua New Material to Build N-Butane Isomerization Unit
According to sources, Shandong Binhua New Material plans to newly build a 600kt/a PDH unit, an 800kt/a n-butane isomerization unit, a 300kt/a PO and 780kt/a TBA complex, a 150kt/a synthesis ammonia unit, etc. with the total investment of 12.9 billion RMB. Moreover, sources say that the unit basic design will be completed in 2020, and the project will be put into operation in August 2021.
According to SCI’s statistics, China’s n-butane isomerization unit capacity totaled 3,780kt/a. As seen from the chart, about 69% of the n-butane isomerization capacity was concentrated in Shandong. In East China, the 480kt/a n-butane isomerization unit at Sinopec Jinling Company was put into use, so the capacity of n-butane isomerization units took up 13% of the total, ranking second. Besides, the capacity of n-butane isomerization units in Northeast China, South China and Northwest China took up 8%, 6% and 4% of the total respectively.
The capacity of the newly added n-butane isomerization unit at Shandong Binhua New Material is the highest in China. Besides, SCI learns that Anqing Taiheng Chemical Technology plans to newly build a 300kt/a n-butane isomerization unit. Given China’s insufficient n-butane resources, SCI reckons that China’s butane import volume will rise year by year. In 2021, it is estimated that China’s butane import volume will reach 8,000kt.
