China Ethanol Export Tops Record in H1, 2020
In H1, 2020, China’s ethanol export volume trended up obviously, and the demand from the disinfection industry surged due to the global public health event. From January to June 2020, China’s total export volume of ethanol as 192.5kt, up 187.4kt, hitting a record high since 2011. Hereinto, in H1, 2020, the export volume of undenatured ethanol (HS code: 22071000) was 179.2kt, and that of denatured ethanol (HS code: 22072000) was 13.3kt. In H1, 2020, China’s demand for ethanol from the white spirits and chemical industries was sluggish, so ethanol and disinfector exports gave support to China’s ethanol market.
In terms of destination, China exported ethanol (including undenatured ethanol and denatured ethanol) to 79 countries in H1, 2020, while only five countries had a total export volume of more than 10kt. In Q2, 2020, China exported ethanol of 176.5kt. On the one hand, the operating rate of foreign ethanol producers was low, and traffic control exerted an impact on transportation, demand and production. On the other hand, under the circumstance of export rebate for undenatured ethanol in China, China’s ethanol plants showed higher export enthusiasm.
