China Butadiene Supply Edged Up in Aug
By the end of late August, there are 32 butadiene producers in China, with a total capacity of 4,459kt/a. The investigated ones include the total capacity of 810kt/a, 405kt/a, 2,015t/a, 530kt/a, 150kt/a, 369kt/a and 180kt/a, respectively in 6 producers in Northeast China, 3 producers in North China, 14 producers in East China, 3 producers in South China, 1 producer in Southwest China, 3 producers in Northwest China and 2 producers in Central China.
Remarks: The butadiene capacity at North Huajin Chemical Industries is revised to 120kt/a; the butadiene capacity at PetroChina Sichuan Petrochemical is revised to 150kt/a; the butadiene capacity at Sinopec & SK (Wuhan) Petrochemical is revised to 130kt/a.

In August 2020, the operating rate of China’s butadiene industry rallied to around 73%. According to SCI, the monthly output was around 270kt in August. Within this month, the butadiene units at Wintter Chemical, Shandong Huayu Rubber, Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical, Nanjing Chengzhi Yongqing Energy Technology and Jiutai Energy Inner Mongolia continued to be shut. ChemChina Puyang Bluestar New Material restarted its butadiene unit in early August. PetroChina Fushun Petrochemical slightly cut the operating rate in mid-August. The butadiene unit at PetroChina Liaoyang Petrochemical was shut down briefly in late August. The butadiene output of some units edged down due to the feedstock problems. Other butadiene units maintained normal operation. On the whole, in August, China’s butadiene supply inched up from last month. Imported butadiene resources were replenished to China’s market obviously, and the overall butadiene supply was sufficient.
