China Methanol Capacity to Surpass 100 Million Tons
By the end of 2020, China’s methanol capacity had reached 92.36 million mt/a. From January to April 2021, there was still newly added methanol capacity released gradually in China. It is projected that China’s methanol capacity will surpass 100 million mt/a by the end of 2021. Under such a background, market consumption will be the decisive factor for the future development of the methanol market.
As showed in the above chart, in recent years, China’s economy faced increasing downward pressure, and the methanol industry development also slowed down, with the growth rate of both supply and demand slipping from over 20% in 2010 to about 10% in 2020.
