H1, 2021 to See Intensive Styrene Turnarounds in Taiwan Province and Abroad

China’s styrene import volume is predicted to be 2,870kt in 2020, and the import dependence degree will likely hover at 22%. Though the import dependence degree is gradually declining, the arrivals of imports directly affects the port inventory in East China, which further guides styrene market prices. Therefore, the turnarounds schedules of abroad styrene units are still needed to be focused on.

In 2020, the styrene output loss caused by unit turnarounds in Taiwan Province and abroad is predicted to be 2,817.4kt in theory. Apart from scheduled turnarounds, the public health event, unexpected breakdowns, hurricanes and other external factors also caused unit shutdowns.

In 2021, the output loss is predicted to stand at 799.7kt. Thereinto, units with no specific schedules are excluded temporarily. The turnarounds will be intensive in H1, 2021.
