1053 Related Nanjing LNG Storage Tanks to Run by This Winter
According to sources, Nanjing city’s LNG emergency storage facility Binjiang Station has finished the main construction, and the city government plans to put those two LNG storage tanks with 36 mcm storage capacity into operation this winter to provide further supply security to the city.
Nanjing city was connected by CNPC’s WEP (West-to-East Pipeline) and Sinopec’s SEP (Sichuan-to-East Pipeline), and the city also outsourced LNG for extra supply. However, facing the rising city gas demand which rose from 3 mcm/d to 5.6 mcm/d in 10 years and the possibility of supply shortage or even supply cut-off, the city government followed the national mandate on natural gas storage capacity to build two 13,000-mt LNG storage tanks to provide the emergency storage for over 10 days against the total shutdown of natural gas supply. The construction of the project was kicked off in 2019, and its operator, Nanjing Towngas, said the project will be put into use in the 2021-2022 winter heating season.
China’s top economic planning official NDRC proposed to establish a 3-level natural gas storage system after 2017’s winter shortage, and the mandate was implemented in practice in H2, 2020.
