2020 China Benzene Import Volume Above 2 mn mt
According to sources, China’s benzene import volume in 2020 was 2,098kt, up 8.18% Y-O-Y. Influenced by the global public health event, the overall demand for benzene was relatively low. Accordingly, foreign traders intended to export resources to China, so low-priced resources hit China’s benzene market. China’s benzene import volume was stable-to-rising, but the growth rate was limited.
As seen from the chart below, China mainly imported benzene from South Korea. In 2020, China imported 1,039.1kt of benzene from South Korea, taking up about 50% of the total. The units in Thailand ran stably, and there was 270.5kt of imported benzene from Thailand, accounting for about 13% of the total. Thailand and India intended to export more resources to China, Western Europe, the U.S. and Southeast Asia, weighing down proportions of benzene imported from South Korea and Japan.
