Recently, China’s coastal methanol market kept fluctuating amid mixed sentiments. Expected supply growth, slow import shipment, high production cost and demand shrink together worked on the market.
Recently, natural gas prices went up in some areas at home and abroad, leading to higher methanol production cost in Southwest China, South America and Europe. It was learned that a few foreign producers under cost pressure chose to shut down units for maintenance. In China, the production cost of coal-based methanol also stayed at a high level, especially in June. In East China and Northwest China, some producers with tight cash flow lowered operating rates or shut down units to reduce profit losses.
