1800kt/a Ivory Board Capacity Expected in Guangxi During December
On December 4, 2021, Guangxi Sun Paper’s 900kt/a ivory board machine has produced its first ivory board roll. This ivory board machine is supplied by Vioth, with a width of 8,900mm and designed speed of 1,300m/min. SCI learned that further tweaks are still required at the moment, and this machine is expected to become fully operational by mid-December. In previous months, Guangxi Sun Paper has fired up a 550kt/a printing and writing paper machine, a 60kt/a tissue machine and a 200kt/a APMP pulping line.
In the meantime, the count down for the commissioning date of the 900kt/a ivory board machine at Guangxi Jingui Pulp and Paper has also started. The first ivory board machine of Guangxi Jingui’s phase II project is supplied by Valmet, with a width of 8,100mm and designed speed of 1,450m/min. This ivory board machine is expected to become operational soon.
SCI reckons that the production at newly added ivory board capacity in Guangxi is likely to start in mid and late December, and the capacity expansion may outpace the demand increase. At the present stage, market players generally lack confidence in the market and tend to maintain a rational inventory level. It is estimated that the ivory board market may hardly increase in the short term even though sellers are attempting to raise the price
