May China EPS Export Volume Increased M-O-M & Y-O-Y
In May 2022, China’s EPS export volume rose notably both M-O-M and Y-O-Y, touching a record high since July 2017. However, the import market underperformed, with both M-O-M and Y-O-Y declines seen. From January to May 2022, China’s total EPS export volume increased Y-O-Y.
In May, China’s EPS export volume was 29.7kt, up 81.99% M-O-M and 95.85% Y-O-Y. The average export price was $1,706.77/mt, down 0.71% M-O-M while up 18.57% Y-O-Y. In the first 5 months of 2022, China’s total EPS export volume was 114.5kt, up 66.72% Y-O-Y.
In May, China’s EPS import volume was 1.2kt, down 31.48% M-O-M and 50.31% Y-O-Y. The average import price was $2,604.34/mt, up 17.93% M-O-M and 23.26% Y-O-Y. In the first 5 months of 2022, China’s total EPS import volume was 7.5kt, down 37.10% Y-O-Y.
In May, China mainly exported EPS to Asia and Europe. Vietnam imported the largest volume (4,242mt) of EPS from China, accounting for 26% of the total. Italy ranked second with 2,006.2mt (12%), followed by Thailand (1,802mt; 11%).
In May, China imported the largest volume (360mt) of EPS from the U.S., accounting for 31% of the total. Austria ranked second with 192mt (16%), followed by Japan (145.36mt; 12%).
In May, the main trade mode of China’s EPS export was general trade, with a total of 27,498.52mt and taking up 93%. Another one was processing trade with imported materials (2,210.7mt), accounting for 7% of the total. Meanwhile, 807.34mt of EPS was imported via general trade, accounting for 69% of the total, followed by processing trade with imported materials (338.6mt; 29%).
In May, from the perspective of receipt and delivery places, exports were mainly in East China while imports were mainly in South China. As for exports, Zhejiang ranked first with a total of 16,232.8mt, taking up 55%, followed by Jiangsu (11,149.23mt; 38%). As for imports, Guangdong ranked first with an import volume of 154.48mt, taking up 44%, followed by Zhejiang (354.5mt;30%).
China’s EPS industry still sees overcapacity, so the export volume is at relatively high level. For China’s import market, it’s mainly in the graphite material field. In June, China’s EPS demand is average, and producers are proactively looking for export opportunities.
