Q1 China Ethanol Import & Export Volume Declined Y-O-Y
In Q1, 2022, China’s ethanol import volume declined both Y-O-Y and Q-O-Q. The total import volume declined by 13,776.61mt, down 99.35% from Q4, 2021. From October 2021, China’s ethanol import volume declined greatly, and the monthly import volume in each month of Q1 was less than 50mt. Meanwhile, China’s ethanol export volume was 2,391.87mt in Q1, 2022, down 14.4% from Q4, 2021.
The import volume of denatured ethanol was 29.31mt, and that of undenatured ethanol was 61.26mt. China’s supply and demand of ethanol was in a balance and the supply was ample. Although China’s ethanol price increased notably with the rising feedstock prices, and China’s buyers proactively looked for imported resources, the ethanol in Pakistan was pre-ordered by exporters, leading to the notably decline in China’s ethanol import volume.
In Q1, 2022, the main import origins were Paraguay (34%) and Germany (20%), followed by France (17%). The traditional top origins, such as the U.S., Pakistan and Brazil, were not seen on the top 3 list.
In Q1, 2022, China’s ethanol export volume was 2,391.87mt, down 402.4mt from Q4, 2021, and down 7,032.63mt Y-O-Y. Therein, the export volume of denatured ethanol was 393.89mt, up 174% from Q4, 2021. That of undenatured ethanol was 1,997.98mt, down 24.62% from Q4, 2O21.
In terms of the export volume, the top 3 export destinations were Taiwan of China, Papua Guinea and Spain, accounting for 51%, 13% and 13% of the total.
