250kt/a PDH Unit at Zibo Haiyi Came on Stream
On August 31, 2022, the 250kt/a PDH unit at Zibo Haiyi Fine Chemical, the subsidiary of Shandong Wonfull Petrochemical, was put into operation, and the matched 150kt/a PP unit has also been put into use. Therefore, Zibo Haiyi Fine Chemical arranges most propylene resources for captive-use. According to sources, Shandong Wonfull Petrochemical plans to extend its C3 industry chain via other related projects, including the 280kt/a PO unit, 160kt/a acrylic acid unit, etc.
By now, China’s PDH capacity reaches 12,295kt/a, up 20.60% from 2021. Although PDH units experience severe profit losses, market participants still show relatively strong interest in building new PDH units, backed by the relatively favorable profits from propylene downstream product production.
Besides, the construction of the phase I project at Yanchang Petroleum & China Gas Chemical has completed on August 31, 2022. According to sources, both phase I and phase II project include a 600kt/a PDH unit each, and the phase II PDH unit is likely to be matched with a 300kt/a PP unit.
With PDH units coming on stream, the demand for imported propane will probably rally, lifting China’s LPG import. Given China’s domestic LPG supply and the downstream deep-processing industry development, it is predicted that China’s LPG import volume will reach about 29,000kt in 2022.
