Marine Methanol Bunkering Standards Firstly Released in China
The 2023 Global Sustainable Transport Forum and the 15th International Exhibition on Transport Technology and Equipment kicked off in Beijing on September 25. China Marine Bunker (PetroChina) Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as CHIMBUSCO), the core shipping service enterprise of China COSCO Shipping Co., Ltd, held the "Green Methanol Bunkering Capacity Building Conference" on the afternoon of the same day.
At the conference, China Petroleum Circulation Association and China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Association respectively announced the official release of the two group standards of “Code of Practice for Marine Methanol Bunkering” and “Marine Methanol” initiated by CHIMBUSCO and related units. Meanwhile, China Classification Society (CCS) and Bureau Verite Classification Society (BV) respectively issued Certificate of Approval in Principle for 7,800-ton dual-fuel green methanol bunkering ship for CHIMBUSCO, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, etc.
This is the first time that China has issued standards on methanol fuel bunkering operation and quality control, filling the domestic gap. This ship type is also the first professional green methanol bunkering ship type in China that has been certified by two classification societies at the same time, laying a good technical foundation for its domestic mass construction.
The official release of the two standards and the “7,800-ton dual-fuel green methanol bunkering ship” obtaining two classification society AIP certificates, together with the relevant methanol bunkering guidelines and inspection specifications established by CCS and BV classification societies, marking the basic completion of the first green methanol bunkering technology chain in China.
