China BD Export Volume Hits a New High in Apr
In April 2024, the export volume of butadiene in China notched a new high in recent years. Specifically, in April, the butadiene exports stood at 26.55kt, up 22.40% M-O-M and 125.12% Y-O-Y. In April, deep-sea cargoes were sparse in Asia. Besides, available butadiene resources in Southeast Asia were still limited, and there was certain spot demand for butadiene from South Korea’s downstream enterprises. Thus, some Chinese-made butadiene resources were exported.
In April, the overall trading atmosphere remained active in China’s export market. It was heard that 4-5 ships of butadiene resources for May were concluded to downstream enterprises in South Korea. Constant exports strongly boosted China’s butadiene market.

In April, China’s butadiene export volume to South Korea ranked first at 20.47kt, up 105.94% M-O-M and 159.75% Y-O-Y. That to China’s Taiwan ranked second at 6.05kt, down 48.50% M-O-M but up 54.67% Y-O-Y. That to Pakistan reached 27mt. Besides, the export volume to South Korea, China’s Taiwan and Pakistan took up 77.1%, 22.8% and 0.1% respectively.

From June to July, China’s butadiene exports may first dip and then climb.
In May, China’s butadiene export volume may remain high. Yet, from June, the export volume of butadiene in China may trend down from previous months. The demand for butadiene from China’s mainland may be curtailed in Northeast Asia, especially in South Korea and China’s Taiwan. However, as the butadiene price trends up due to supply cuts in Europe, the arbitrage between Europe and Asia has been closed. Thus, deep-sea cargoes may hardly be replenished to the Asia market constantly. Thus, after July, the export volume of butadiene may remain at a high level.
