1,000kt/a Ethylene Project at Wanhua Chemical Group Got Approval

According to sources, the 1,000kt/a ethylene project at Wanhua Chemical Group has been approved.

Wanhua Chemical Group is a global-operating chemical new material company, and the products at the company cover the PU industry cluster such as MDI, TDI, polyether glycol; the petrochemical industry cluster such as acrylic acid and ester, PO; functional chemicals and the materials industry cluster such as water-based PUD, PA emulsion, TPU, ADI series, etc. Once the project is completed, Wanhua Chemical Group will officially enter the ethylene industry.

Construction site: Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone

Major units: 1,000kt/a ethylene unit, 400kt/a PVC unit, 150kt/a EO unit, 450kt/a LLDPE unit, 300kt/a PO unit, 650kt/a styrene unit, 50kt/a butadiene unit and matched auxiliary and utility facilities.

Construction cycle: 2 years

Investment: 1.68 billion RMB

SCI learns that Wanhua Chemical Group plans to build a new ethylene unit based on the current import qualification of propane and use the imported propane resources as feedstock. After the unit is completed and put into operation, it will produce 1,000kt of ethylene and propylene, mixed C4, C6+ and other intermediate products. In the long term, SCI reckons that the demand for imported LPG will continue to increase.
