Market Prices of China’s Off-Grade EPDM Increased

Supported by high costs and the depreciation of RMB, China’s EPDM market offers increased quickly. The trading appeared chaotic. As recently, there was no low-priced resource, the settlement prices increased correspondingly. Prices of imported off-grade EPDM also increased due to the high costs and depreciation of RMB.

As the low-priced off-grade EPDM resources gradually disappeared, prices fluctuated upward.

Imported off-grade EPDM

In 2018, the supply of imported off-grade EPDM was tight, and the market prices were mixed. The mainstream prices were in the range of RMB 16,000-16,500/mt. Some settlement prices were lower than RMB 16,000/mt at the end of May and in H1 June.

From H2 June, influenced by the great and quick depreciation of RMB, RMB prices of imported off-grade EPDM gradually increased. But around July, as the demand for off-grade EPDM was in the slack season, some settlement prices were almost unchanged. At the beginning of August, some USD offers of off-line EPDM from Dow were $1,800-1,900/mt. Besides, as the low-cost resources gradually decreased, there were high prices. Market settlement prices were around RMB 17,000/mt, up RMB 500-1,000/mt than those at the end of May.
