How Will China’s Wood Pulp Market Perform in H2, 2019?
Hello, this is paper & pulp analyst Ricky Wang from SCI. Today we are going to do a quick half-year review on the wood pulp market and talk about the future trend for the next 6 months to come.
In the past 6 months, wood pulp prices fell back to a low level as before the price spike in 2017 and 2018. The core reason has been the weak downstream demand, which led to high inventory level and low profit rate at wood pulp traders.
In the future, SCI estimates the wood pulp price may start to recover in Q3 as the traditional boom season in China’s downstream paper industry will come in August. Also, the China-U.S. trade dispute has shown signs of improvement after the G20 Osaka Summit, and the market confidence is somewhat lifted. However, it will still be difficult for pulp prices to rise back to the high level as at early 2019 under the current macro-economic environment.
