SABIC Joined AEPW to Face Waste Plastic Challenges

Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) has announced its participation in The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW). It hopes that the actual actions can be used to emphasize that global companies that produce and use plastic products have ability and obligation to become the key drivers.

AEPW is a new non-profit organization of 27 multinational companies around the world, which aims to promote the development of related solutions to reduce the impacts of poor management of plastic waste on the environment.

Yousef Abdullah Albenyan, the Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SABIC, pointed that Innovative plastics are an integral part of modern life. But even the best-performing products can be harmful if they are misused or improperly disposed of.”

SABIC is committed to addressing sustainability challenges in the world. Since the company’s establishment in 1976, it has actively adopted joint measures to develop other valuable uses for waste gas formed during the production of petroleum and natural gas.

At the same time, in its own manufacturing, SABIC also pays special attention to waste recycling. Currently, SABIC operates the world’s largest carbon dioxide recycle and purification plant and uses purified carbon dioxide to produce fertilizers and other chemicals.

Yousef Abdullah Albenyan added: “It needed the participation of consumers, manufacturers, technology developers, the financial community, government agencies and civil society organizations to deal with the relevant problems about waste plastic.”
