PetroChina Changqing Ethane to Ethylene Project Started

On September 4, the cornerstone laying ceremony of PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical Changqing ethane to ethylene project was held in Yulin, Shaanxi. This project is jointly undertaken by Shaanxi Yulin High-End Energy & Chemical Base Construction Headquarters Office, Yulin High-Tech Zone Management Committee and PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd.

This is China's first set of ethane to ethylene project with independent intellectual property rights, which is included in the national demonstration projects. The project, with a total investment of about 10.4 billion yuan, mainly uses ethane separated from natural gas in Changqing Oilfield to produce ethylene, fuel gas, C3 and other chemical products through cracking and then produce polyethylene through polymerization. This project mainly includes 800kt/a ethylene unit, 400kt/a FDPE unit, 400kt/a HDPE unit and 30kt/a butane-1 unit.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020 and put into operation in June 2021. After completion, it will improve the utilization efficiency of natural gas resources and the competitiveness of ethylene products, drive the extension of ethylene industrial chain in Hengyu industrial park, and promote the development of high-end fine chemical industry in the park.
