2020 China Ethanol Exports Top Record
In 2020, China’s undenatured ethanol (edible and industrial ethanol) export volume will notch a record high in recent five years. Hereinto, the lowest export volume was 17kt in 2019. The key factors affecting China’s ethanol exports are domestic production costs and foreign demand changes. The export volume of denatured ethanol (fuel ethanol) is relatively low due to the lack of cost competitiveness. Additionally, the COVID-19 dragged down the global economy, and the foreign demand for fuel ethanol shrank, restricting export opportunities.

From January to September 2020, China’s undenatured ethanol (edible and industrial ethanol) export volume was 254.1kt, up 246kt Y-O-Y. Hereinto, the highest import volume was 69.9kt in May 2020, and the lowest one was in early 2020. The monthly average import volume from January to February 2020 was 3,384mt.
