Shandong Establishes 5 Provincial LNG Storage Bases, First in China
According to Shandong provincial government, as of the end of September 2020, Shandong has established five provincial LNG peak-shaving storage bases by the private sector namely Shandong Dongming Petrochemical, SD Steel Rizhao, Shandong Jinluban Clean Energy, Shandong Huasheng Energy and Shandong Hengwei Chemical. The five bases provide over 52,000 tons of LNG storage capacity, helping Shandong to accomplish the 3-day emergency storage capacity mandate for administrations, first in China.
Beside the LNG storage bases, Shandong also exerts great efforts in LNG receiving terminal expansion. By far, as the only LNG receiving terminal within Shandong, the 3 MTPA Sinopec Qingdao Terminal is under two expansion construction phases simultaneously with 4 MTPA commissioning by 2020 and another 4 MTPA commissioning by 2022. Shandong also has two new terminals under construction, namely the 5 MTPA PipeChina Longkou Terminal and 5 MTPA GCL Yantai Terminal, both to run by 2022 as estimated. Another two terminals are under the approval and estimated to break ground soon, namely the 3 MTPA CNPC Yantai Terminal and 6 MTPA Sinopec Longkou Terminal. With all those six projects done, Shandong’s LNG receiving capacity will be tremendously boosted from the current 3 MTPA to 30 MTPA, ten times in three years.
