2020 PE Import Volume Reached Its Historical High
According to statistics from SCI, as of October 2020, China’s PE import volume reached 15,458.6kt. According to SCI, compared with 2011, total PE imports in 2020 will increase by 11,260kt, a growth rate of 151.3%. China’s PE imports have been increasing year by year since 2011. In 2020, it was predicted that the import volume would reach the highest level in the past ten years.

By October 2020, China’s import volume reached 15,458.6kt, up 12.98% Y-O-Y. According to SCI, the total import volume in 2020 was estimated at 18,700kt, up 2,030kt or 12% Y-O-Y. Data showed that the average annual growth rate of China’s PE import volume was 10.78% from 2011 to 2020. From 2017 to 2019, the U.S. shale oil reform led to the centralized commissioning of global light hydrocarbon units, and the growth rate of China’s PE imports was in the range of 18%-19% during this period.
