1 Coal and crude oil production
China’s coal production edged down. In March 2021, China’s coal production was 340 million mt, down 0.2% Y-O-Y, and the daily production was 10,990kt. In March 2021, China imported coal of 27,330kt, down 1.8% Y-O-Y. In Q1, 2021, China’s coal production was 970 million mt, up 16.0% Y-O-Y; the import volume of coal was 68,460kt, down 28.5% Y-O-Y.
The coal dealing prices at ports showed an uptrend. As of April 2, the prices of coal Q5500, Q5000 and Q4500 at Qinhuangdao port were RMB 634/mt, RMB 567/mt and RMB 502/mt respectively, up RMB 54/mt, RMB 49/mt and RMB 39/mt respectively from March 5.
China’s crude oil production sped up, and the processing volume rose rapidly. In March 2021, China’s crude oil production was 17,090kt, up 3.3% Y-O-Y, and the daily production was 551kt. China’s crude oil processing volume was 59,790kt, up 19.7% Y-O-Y. The daily processing volume averaged 1,929kt. In Q1, 2021, China’s crude oil production was 49,180kt, up 1.4% Y-O-Y; the crude oil processing volume was 174,040kt, up 16.5% Y-O-Y.
China’s crude oil import volume increased notably, and the international crude oil prices remained stable. In March 2021, China imported crude oil of 49,660kt, up 20.8% Y-O-Y. In Q1, 2021, China’s crude oil import volume totaled 139,230kt, up 9.5% Y-O-Y. As of March 31, Brent crude oil spot price rose to $63.52/bbl FOB, down 1.6% or $1.04/bbl from March 1.
