China Methanol Import Structure Undergoing Shifts
With the continuous release of new methanol capacity in the Americas and the Middle East and the mismatch between supply and demand from 2016 to 2020, the trade flow of methanol resources from the main producing areas, South America and the Middle East, is gradually changing, and China’s methanol import structure is also undergoing shifts.

As we all know, production cost, market price, transportation distance and demand volume are key factors influencing international methanol trade flows. In the past two years, the Middle East, South America, Southeast Asia and New Zealand were still China’s major import origin, but there were still some shifts in ranking. In 2020, the largest import origin was replaced by the U.A.E, and the ranking of Trinidad dropped from third to sixth. The rankings of Malaysia and Brunei also lag behind. However, the rankings of Oman, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela were relatively stable.
