[Introduction] Up to July 12, the butadiene prices in Jiangsu and Zhejiang closed at RMB 12,150/mt, registering a single-day increase of around 14%. The surging butadiene price caused a sudden increase in the SBR and PBR cost. Boosted by the cost, can SBR and PBR prices move up?
In H2, 2021, the scheduled maintenance involves ESBR and HCBR units at Sinopec Qilu Company and the HCBR unit at TSRC-UBE (Nantong) Chemical Industrial. Recently, some ESBR and HCBR units have been unscheduled to be shut down, including the ESBR unit at PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical, the HCBR unit at Hipro New Material Technology and the HCBR unit at Zibo Qixiang Tengda Chemical. The maintenance date of the ESBR unit at PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical is 15 days later than the original plan. In the wake of this, the output loss of EBSR and HCBR will be 12kt and 4.4kt respectively. As for the influences of scheduled maintenance, the output loss of EBSR and HCBR will be 40kt and 14kt respectively. Therefore, the bullish sentiment of resource holders will be enhanced.
