Synthetic rubber (SR) can substitute for natural rubber (NR). But the SR prices were RMB 2,000-4,000/mt higher than NR prices, caused by the cost and supply. Besides, the price growth of butadiene (BD) directly influenced the SR production cost. In July and August, BD and the major downstream products including SBR, PBR and SBS kept climbing, hitting a new high in 2018.
