Oct Butadiene Supply to Rally

As seen from the above chart, the operating rate of units at most China’s butadiene producers mainly remained stable in September 2019, accounting for around 86% of the total. As for production techniques, the operating rate of butene ODH units was largely stable from last month. The butadiene units at Zibo Qixiang Tengda Chemical and Jiutai Energy Inner Mongolia ran normally. The butene ODH units at Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical and Nanjing Chengzhi Yongqing Energy Technology ran normally in mid-September. The butadiene units at Shandong Kenli Petrochemical and Shandong Yuhuang Chemical were still in the downtime. The operating rate of C4 extraction units was relatively stable, replenishing China’s butadiene market somewhat. China’s butadiene supply was passable overall.

In October, the butadiene unit at Shandong Weite Chemical will not be restarted. Shandong Yuhuang Chemical plans to restart the butadiene unit in H1 of October. A 50kt/a butadiene unit at Sinopec Maoming Company is planned to take maintenance for 15 days from early October. The 70kt/a butadiene unit at Jiutai Energy Inner Mongolia will take maintenance for around one week from mid-October. The 160kt/a butadiene unit at PetroChina Fushun Petrochemical will be shut briefly within this month, having a slight impact on the supply. Other butadiene units will run normally. Overall, the operating rate of China’s butadiene units in October will continue to rally from September.
