Qingwei Container Tried ISO LNG Import from Korea
Weihai Qingwei Container Terminal Co., Ltd. recently accomplished its first LNG ISO container import from South Korea. The company is a JV of Weihai Port Group and Qingdao Port Group, and the experiment of ISO LNG import only made two 40GP ISO containers for the first deal, but according to the general manager of the company, Mr. Tian Yujun, the company will dedicate more efforts and focus into the clean energy import in the future, and as one of the top container terminals in Shandong, the LNG ISO is an inborn business for the company’s future.
Because of the low NEA LNG price and thin profit in LNG ISO business, there are limited companies maintaining normal LNG ISO trading by far. Jusda kept importing from Japan and Top Speed kept importing from Canada, but both of them only maintained small throughput. Other companies, such as PetroChina Intl., Yangkou Port Company, etc., are more focusing on how to break through the logistics and business blockade, but show no interests in massive operation yet. This experimental stage exerts minor impact to the LNG import market, but situation will change when the profitability become acceptable and supply redundancy becomes severer in surrounding countries such as Korea and Japan.
