China to Extract Underground Stockpile for Winter
On November 15th, with the beginning of traditional winter heating season, China’s underground facilities stopped the gas input and started the extraction procedure.
As for CNPC, at 9 am of November 16th, 4 wells of Jing-58 underground facility started the gas extraction, which marked PetroChina Huabei Oilfield Company’s underground facilities formally started Beijing’s supply guarantee for winter heating season. Jing 58 and Suqiao underground facilities, which belong to PetroChina Huabei Oilfield Company, completed the switch of gas input and output. After the off-peak season’s input, the facilities are capable of extracting of over 1.4 bcm in this winter heating season, and the daily extraction volume in peak month will reach more than 25 mcm/d. This winter, there will be 21 wells in Suqiao underground facilities participating in peak-shaving. Suqiao underground facilities are capable to provide over 7 mcm/d for Shaanxi-Beijing Trunk Line, which can effectively relieve the natural gas tight supply in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Moreover, 16 wells of Hebei underground facility branch will also participate in peak-shaving with the daily supply volume of 3.8 mcm/d. It is estimated that 37 wells in Jiangsu underground facilities (Jintan and Liuzhuang) will provide West-to-East Gas Trunk Line I with daily supply volume of 15 mcm/d.
As for Sinopec, on November 15th, Wen 23 underground facility formally completed the switch. With the total storage capacity of 10.4 bcm, Wen 23 underground facility is a natural gas storage and peak-shaving facility with the largest storage capacity, the largest working capacity and the strongest peak-shaving capability in the central and eastern regions of China. Started from 2019’s March 8, the first gas input cycle lasted 254 days with a total volume of 3.05 bcm and the maximum daily injection volume of 17 mcm/d, which laid a foundation for the natural gas supply guarantee. Moreover, Wen 23 underground facility is predicted to extract gas of over 80 mcm in this winter heating season, which will play a positive role in natural gas’s emergent supply guarantee in North China.
In 2019, the large-scale underground facilities generally input 1.5-1.6 bcm each, and the small-scale underground facilities input 0.3-0.8 bcm each. It is estimated that China’s underground facilities totally input over 8-10 bcm. SCI reckons that in this winter, China’s underground facilities are capable to extract 20 bcm of natural gas to the maximum extent. In one word, there will be more than sufficient supply from those facilities for the 2019 winter heating season.
