According to SCI’s statistics, in April, the total shutdown capacity of PE units at producers was 4.22 million mt/a, and the total PE output losses due to unit maintenance reached 100.9kt, up 27.4kt M-O-M. However, the PE inventory at producers was still at a high level, and therefore, the overall PE supply in the market was still ample.

According to SCI’s statistics, in May, the PE units that will be shut down are as follows:

The 60kt/a old FDPE unit at PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical was shut down on Feb 25, and it was not certain when it would be restarted. The 300kt/a LDPE unit at China Shenhua Coal Oil Chemical Yulin Chemical Branch was shut down on April 6 and was planned to be restarted on May 30. The 110kt/a 1# LDPE unit at Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical was shut down on April 22 and was planned to be restarted in early May. The 200kt/a FDPE unit at Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical will be shut down from May 2 to May 7 and from May 19 to May 21. The 450kt/a FDPE unit at Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group will be shut down from May 5 to June 10. The 300kt/a LLDPE unit at Sinopec SABIC TianJin Petrochemical will be shut down from May 8 to July 9. The 300kt/a HDPE unit at Sinopec SABIC TianJin Petrochemical will be shut down from May 9 to July 10. The 120kt/a LLDPE unit at Tianjin Lianhe Chemistry will be shut down from May 8 to July 4. The 300kt/a FDPE unit at Pucheng Clean Energy Chemical will be shut down from May 10 to June 15. The 300kt/a FDPE unit at Ningxia Baofeng Energy will be shut down from from early May for around 45 days. The 200kt/a LDPE unit at BASF-YPC Company will be shut down in May or June. The 300kt/a HDPE unit at Sinopec-SK (Wuhan) Petrochemical Company will be shut down on May 18 for 2 days. On the whole, in May, the total PE output losses due to unit maintenance are estimated at 190.9kt, up around 90kt M-O-M. Therein, LLDPE takes up 116.2kt, LDPE takes up 46.6kt and HDPE takes up 28.1kt.
