Hudong-Zhonghua Delivers World’s Largest LNG-Fueled Vessel
China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC)’s Hudong-Zhonghua hosted the delivery and naming ceremony for the CMA CGM Jacques Saade on September 22 at its Shanghai Jiangnan-Changxing Shipyard. The 23,000 TEU containership is the world’s largest LNG-fueled vessel with 400 meters long, 61 meters wide, and also the vessel is loaded with WinGD’s dual-fuel W12X92DF engine and GTT’s 18,600 cbm film LNG tank, both the largest ever built. This LNG tank will allow these giants to make a round-trip on the Asia-Europe route with a single fill.
The vessel, which had finished sea trials in March and gas trials in August, will depart to Europe this week and is expected to arrive in November to serve the Europe-Asia route bunkering LNG from the MOL-owned and Total-chartered Gas Agility.
To remind, the world’s largest LNG bunkering vessel Gas Agility arrived off Rotterdam in August and the duo officially named it in the Dutch port. This 18,600 cbm LNG bunkering vessel was also built by Hudong-Zhonghua’s Jiangnan-Changxing Shipyard and was delivered in March to serve CMA CGM’s ultra-large LNG-powered containerships but also other vessels in the Northern Europe area.
