Jan 2021 China BD Supply to Remain High
By the end of December, there are 35 butadiene producers in China, with the total capacity of 4,836kt/a. The investigated ones include the total capacity of 930kt/a, 405kt/a, 2,142t/a, 660kt/a, 150kt/a, 369kt/a and 180kt/a, respectively in 7 producers in Northeast China, 3 producers in North China, 15 producers in East China, 4 producers in South China, 1 producer in Southwest China, 3 producers in Northwest China and 2 producers in Central China.
In December, the operating rate of China’s butadiene industry continued to rally to 78% roughly. According to SCI, the monthly output of butadiene was around 313kt. Within this month, the butadiene units at Wintter Chemical and Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical were in downtime. The 60kt/a butadiene unit via C4 extraction technology at Shandong Yuhuang Chemical was restarted. Sinopec & SK (Wuhan) Petrochemical restarted its butadiene unit in late December. The operating rate of other butadiene units changed slightly. The overall operating rate of China’s butadiene industry continued to ramp up. As seen from newly added units, the butadiene unit at Wanhua Chemical Group ran normally for the time being, but the butadiene product index was still debugging. Thus, its operating rate was not included in the statistics. Overall, the butadiene supply in December will continue to rally.
