Liaohe UGS Running at Max Withdrawal
According to CNPC, its natural gas underground storage cluster, Liaohe UGS Cluster, located in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, had run at full withdrawal capacity over 15 mcm/d from its two UGS facilities, Shuang-6 and Lei-61, to secure the natural gas supply challenge this winter in North China and Northeast China.
Liaohe UGS Cluster, because of its convenient location, is connected to Yong-Qin-Tang Pipeline heading to Tangshan and Beijing, Shen-Da Pipeline heading to Dalian and Qin-Shen Pipeline heading to Shenyang. Also, the new China-Russia Pipeline East Route mid-section went through it heading to Beijing. As one of the national strategic reserve facilities and the largest UGS facility in Northeast China, Liaohe UGS Cluster is designed with 6.2 bcm of total storage capacity and 2.6 bcm of working capacity.
Facing challenges from the severest cold spells hitting China in decades and the high residential gas consumption under the COVID-19 relapse in Northeast China, the two UGS facilities of Liaohe UGS Cluster had been put at max withdrawal this winter. By far, Shuang-6 UGS had withdrawn over 0.7 bcm, and Lei-61, which just finished the cushion gas input phase in 2020 and had no withdrawal plan this winter, also joined the team to help out the winter supply security.
