By the end of June, there are 36 butadiene producers in China, with the total capacity of 4,946kt/a. The investigated ones include the total capacity of 930kt/a, 405kt/a, 2,192kt/a, 660kt/a, 150kt/a, 369kt/a and 240kt/a, respectively in 7 producers in Northeast China, 3 producers in North China, 16 producers in East China, 4 producers in South China, 1 producer in Southwest China, 3 producers in Northwest China and 2 producers in Central China.
Remarks: The butadiene capacity at North Huajin Chemical Industries is revised to 120kt/a; the butadiene capacity at PetroChina Sichuan Petrochemical is revised to 150kt/a; the butadiene capacity at Sinopec & SK (Wuhan) Petrochemical is revised to 130kt/a.
In June 2021, the operating rate of China’s butadiene industry was around 72.4%, up 5.19% from last month. According to SCI’s monitoring, the monthly output of butadiene was around 297kt. Within this month, the 70kt/a butadiene unit at Jiutai Energy Inner Mongolia, 80kt/a butadiene unit via butene ODH technology and 60kt/a butadiene unit via C4 extraction technology at Shandong Yuhuang Chemical continued to remain shut. PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical shut down its butadiene unit for maintenance for around 50 days in early June. Its butadiene unit is planned to be restarted in mid-July. The 100kt/a butadiene unit at Nanjing Chengzhi Yongqing Energy Technology was restarted within this month. The operating rates of butadiene units at Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical and PetroChina Fushun Petrochemical ramped up in end-June. Other butadiene units saw minor adjustments. Overall, the butadiene supply in June warmed up notably from last month.
