Towngas & Shenneng Group Cooperate on Green Methanol Development
On March 12, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and Shenneng (Group) Company Limited (Shenneng Group) signed the Green Energy Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement at Shenneng Energy Center.
At the ceremony, the two sides established a consultation mechanism, which includes: studying the establishment of a green energy cooperation and investment platform, integrating the resources and advantages of both sides to jointly expand green energy markets such as green methanol and hydrogen energy; jointly promote the production increment of Towngas’ green methanol project, further improve the green methanol production capacity to meet the market demand; through Shenneng Group’s first-mover advantage in the hydrogen industry and Towngas’ ability to develop hydrogen applications in Hong Kong of China.
At present, Towngas is the only enterprise in the Chinese mainland to produce green methanol certified by the European Union ISCC, and its products meet the European requirements for sustainable biofuels and chemical products. The enterprise’s methanol production plant in Ordos, Inner Mongolia uses biomass and municipal waste to convert green methanol through patented/unique technology. At present, the annual output of 100,000 tons of green methanol can be used in the shipping industry, industrial production and other applications.
