Feb China PP Imports Climbed on Slowly Reviving Demand

1. China PP Import Volume Climbed
China’s PP (HS code: 39021000) import volume grew MOM and YOY in February 2025. The PP downstream demand revived slowly in China, influenced by the Spring Festival holiday. Besides, overseas PP supply stayed tight amid intensive unit maintenance. However, some forward-month cargoes arrived in China, pushing up the import volume in February.
2. Feb 2025 China PP Import Data by Origin
In terms of import origins, the top ten trading partners in import trade volume changed to some extent in February. Regarding the specific changes, the supply from countries with more mature technologies in the near-sea area saw significant fluctuations, leading to shifts in rankings. South Korea retained its position as the No.1 supplier, with import volume reaching 34.1kt this month, largely unchanged from January. Imports from the U.A.E. saw a notable increase of 8.2kt and reached 24.3kt, mainly driven by delayed arrivals of forward-month cargoes and rising orders amid concerns over upcoming plant maintenance. Japan and Russia also recorded substantial growth, with imports ranking third and fifth respectively.
3. Feb 2025 China PP Import Data by Trade Mode
The import trade modes changed somewhat in February 2025. China’s PP import volume via general trade mode was 131.2kt, which occupied 68% of the total in February, ranking first. Imports via general trade mode were mainly from South Korea, Japan and Malaysia. The import volume via processing trade with imported materials was about 35.3kt, taking up 18% and ranking second. And major origins were South Korea, Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. Besides, the import volume based on the mode of logistics goods in areas under special customs supervision was around 16.3kt, occupying 10% and ranking third. Major trade partners via that trade mode were Kazakhstan, the U.A.E. and Russia. The import proportions based on trade modes of processing trade with imported materials and logistics goods in areas under special customs supervision continued to go up, while those based on other trade modes such as processing trade provided with raw materials varied narrowly.
4. Feb 2025 China PP Import Data by Import Cost
The overall import cost rose slightly MOM in February and mainly hovered around $800-1,200/mt. Therein, import volume with import costs of $900-1,000/mt ranked first, and major origins were the U.A.E., Thailand and Saudi Arabia. The import volume with costs of $800 declined to the second place, and major origins were Japan, Malaysia and Kazakhstan. Imports with costs of $1,100-1,200/mt ranked third, and major origins were South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan of China. Imports with costs of $1,000-1,100/mt ranked fourth, and main origins were Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan of China. Generally, the fluctuation range of import costs was relatively immobile.
