25 Million Tons/a Refining Capacity Planned in Guangdong

Zhanjiang, a city under Guangdong Province, issued a notice that a total of 25 million tons/a refining capacity would be built on Donghai Island, Zhanjiang City. Donghai Island is an island in the southeast part of the urban area of Zhanjiang, Guangdong. It has a coastline of 159.48 kilometers, with a total area of 286 square kilometers, making it the largest island in Guangdong and the fifth-largest island in China.

Zhanjiang is build a petrochemical zone on the island, covering 34.99 square kilometers. And the China-Kuwait Refining & Chemical Project is in the petrochemical zone. The first phase of China-Kuwait Refining & Chemical Project is build 10 million tons/a refining capacity and some downstream chemical units. The second phase will build 15 million tons/a refining capacity.

The China-Kuwait Refining & Chemical Project is jointly built by Sinopec and Kuwait Petroleum Company. It was authorized by the NDRC in 2011, and the construction was started in 2016. At present, over 50% of the project has been constructed. According to the planning, the construction will be finished at the end of 2019 and will be put into production in 2020.
