Tissue Paper Market Leaders to Produce Medical Face Masks

As of Feb 10, trading in the tissue paper market was still sparse, and most tissue paper producers had not resumed normal operation due to the restrictions on product and feedstock transportation. But some tissue paper producers managed to resume operation partially and implemented the price increase notices issued before the holiday. Therefore, the tissue paper price was adjusted up by RMB 100/mt or 1 .72%.

Because of the shortage in masks, many of the top hygiene product producers have switched to produce medical masks. In the paper industries, some napkin paper, wet wipe and female hygiene product producers can better meet the prerequisites for producing medical masks with fully enclosed, dust and germ free production shop as well as more stringent production hygienic standards. Recently, Guangdong Zhongshun Jierou Paper, one of the tissue paper market leaders, has announced a plan for one of its fully own subsidiary to switch to produce medical masks with a capacity of 350,000 pieces/d. The company has arranged the transportation of its equipment to Yunfu industrial base in Guandong for installation and adjustments, and the production will commence by the end of February.

This was not a unique case. On February 9, Fujian Shengtai Industry Group, a wet wipe producer, also announced that it had purchased two mask production lines and prepared for producing medical masks. With the resources at hand, Fujian Shengtai Industry Group will be able to produce 200,000 medical masks per day under strict quality standards and supply the market with 6 million masks every month. The production lines will be up and ready on February 20. Also, Shanghai Hulijia Industry, a hygiene product producer, has successfully produced a new variety of disposable medical filter sheet, which will enable one mask to be safely used for three consecutive days. The unit at Shanghai Hulijia Industry is operating normally at present with a capacity of 500,000 filter sheets per day, and the company is planning to add two more mask production lines by the end of the month.

More and more hygiene product producers are promptly answering the call to resolve the shortage in mask supply, and the mask supply will undoubtedly become sufficient soon. It is worth noting that most of the mask capacity is switched from former hygiene care product lines, and the tissue paper capacity is unaffected. In addition to the abundant inventory at tissue paper producers, the tissue paper shortage will not appear after the logistic system resumes normal.
